Badia di Sant'Agata

Catania

The abbey of Sant'Agata, project of the Vaccarini, was built on the ruins of the homonymous monastery destroyed by the 1693 earthquake-. It is rightly a great example of Sicilian Baroque. The front side, formed by concave and convex walls, embedded in the center the main entrance decorated with palms, lilies and crowns, while at the top end with a dome. The interior, more sober, impresses the visitor with the white stucco, the polychrome floors, the paintings and the statues of St. Euplio, S. Joseph, S. Agata, Immaculate and St. Benedict.
