La Martorana - Santa Maria dell’Ammiraglio

Founded by Admiral King Roger II, George of Antioch in 1143 and dedicated to the Madonna, was later called "Martorana" because the seat of the monastery founded by Eleanor Martorana in 1194, in time undergoes several changes, including the removal of the front central apse and presbytery, the interior is divided into two parts with eighteenth century frescoes and Byzantine mosaics, mosaics we find them also in the domes and walls.
