Catania

The Diocesan Museum of Catania is configured as a museum, the cathedral and the bishop's seat, as it keeps moving all the furniture center. The works of diocesan acquired from the museum, offer the opportunity to learn about the various stages of the diocese and religious life of Catania. With its nine exhibition halls and the path of the external terraces, is one of the largest museums in Italian churchmen. The museum is divided into two sections: the first, that winds through the rooms on the first floor and ends at the next floor in the chapel is dedicated to the liturgical furnishings of the cathedral, and the second, which includes the furnishings of other churches in the city and diocese, is located in the last rooms on the second and third floors, and includes inside the Art Gallery. This preserves valuable works, such as the Madonna and Child and the Crucifixion, dating from the fourteenth century, the Madonna and Child Enthroned (1580) Bernardinus of Niger and the Holy Family (1790) by Antonio Cavallucci. The path is added to the visit to fercolo, a large wagon called'' silver'' Vara finely chiseled, on which are carried in procession the relics of St. Agatha on the occasion of the patron. The museum is enriched by a visit to the rooftop terrace, which allows us to understand Piazza Duomo, the sequence of the baroque churches of Crociferi Street and the Cathedral with its domes.
