Temple of Heracles

Valle dei Templi

The Temple of Heracles (Hercules for the Romans), erected at the end of the 6th century B.C., was damaged by a terrible earthquake that unfortunately left only 8 columns of its former magnificence. It is the oldest Doric building in Agrigento. At its foot lies an altar, which is a Roman-era funerary monument, believed to be the tomb of Theron.
