Piazza Carlo Alberto

Catania

Piazza Carlo Alberto is a historic square located in the heart of Catania. It is situated between Villa Bellini, Via Umberto, and Corso Sicilia. The square is named after Carlo Alberto of Savoy, the king of the Kingdom of Sardinia in the 19th century. To the east of the square stands the Sanctuary of Madonna del Carmine, built in 1729, and to the south is the Church of San Gaetano alle Grotte, dating back to 1801. A distinctive feature of the square is its daily market, known as "Fera o’ Luni" in the Sicilian dialect. This market offers a variety of products, from household items to toys, clothing, and gastronomy, including fruits, vegetables, fish, and other food items.
