Initially the field of military training for this known as the parade, then became the seat of the great exposure Sicilian farmhouse in 1907, and from there took the name of "Square Exposition", only in 1975 was named after Giovanni Verga with the laying of Malavoglia fountain created by sculptor Carmelo Catania Mendola. The square hosts since 1953 the courthouse with the imposing staircase in lava stone and bronze statue of justice created by the sculptor Carmelo Catania Mendola.
