Among the UNESCO heritage sites, meaning works of exceptional universal value, since 1997, the archaeological area of Agrigento has been included the Valley of the Temples, located in the powerful and wealthy Akragas, founded by the Greeks in the 6th century B.C. A testimony to such grandeur, it is splendidly preserved, featuring Doric temples dating back to the 5th century B.C.
